Prof. Abiodun Musa Aibinu

Vice-Chancellor

Abiodun Musa AIBINU (Ph.D.), is an “AcadoPreneur” and a highly-motivated career driven achiever with over Twenty-four (24) years working experience in the field of: Mechatronics Engineering, Autotronics, Avionics, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Telecommunication Engineering, Teaching and Research.

Presently, he is the Vice-Chancellor, Summit University, Offa, Kwara state, Nigeria and a Professor of Mechatronics Engineering at the Federal University of Technology (FUT), Minna, Nigeria. Ahead of now, he was once the:


  1. Head, Department of Mechatronics Engineering, FUT Minna, Nigeria, 2014 to 2022
  2. Director, Centre of Open Distance and e-Learning, FUT Minna, 2014 to 2022
  3. Coordinator, Advanced Engineering Innovation Research Group, FUT Minna, 2013 to 2015
  4. Chairman, Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Challenge, 2020.

Prof. Aibinu is an advocate of Spiritual Intelligence, Artificial Intelligence and AcadoPreneurship. AcadoPreneurship simply means turning academic ideas into businesses. Efforts are ongoing in turning some of his research outputs and that of other colleagues into start-up businesses at Federal University of Technology, Minna. AcadoPreneur Aibinu is also a co-founder at Artificial Intelligence for Clean Energy Nigeria Limited, a startup firm with product development along Industry 4.0 technologies.

Professor Aibinu has participated and won several academics and research awards at various international and national exhibitions. He was nominated for 2012 promising researcher award and best teacher award at IIUM Malaysia. In 2017, AcadoPreneur Aibinu was one of the recipients of the highly prestigious Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Research and Development award. Also, in 2019, he was honored with SERVICOM Excellence Award by Federal University of Technology Minna, Nigeria in recognition of his selfless services and contributions to the development of Federal University of Technology Minna, Nigeria and the country at large. In 2021, he was one of the recipients of Vice-Chancellor Excellence award.


He has also won several research grants in and outside Nigeria among which include:

  1. Nigerian Communications Commission research grants in 2015, 2016 and 2019;
  2. TETFUND Research grants in 2014, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020;
  3. Royal Academy of Engineering Research Grant Award, 2019;
  4. University of Leeds E-Waste Grant, 2020;
  5. Kaduna State Government Research Grant, 2020;
  6. PTDF Research Grant, 2021;
  7. International Telecommunication Research Grant, 2021;
  8. European Union Marie Curie Exchange Grant, 2022;
  9. University of Leeds Biotechnology Grants, 2023;
  10. Gender and Responsive Artificial Intelligence Network, 2023. Just to mention but few of his achievements in winning research grants in and outside Nigeria;

He has authored and co-authored several publications in both local and international journals and conferences. Some of his published work are highly cited in the academic field. His research interests include: Digital signal and Image processing, Information and Communication Technology, Robotics, Process Automation, Intelligent system development and Clean Energy generation.


He has been actively involved in teaching, supervision, mentoring and research activities at various universities in Nigeria and Malaysia. He is a research-resource person to: Nigerian Air Force (NAF), Nigerian Army (NA), and National Defense Headquarters and other agencies having memorandum of Understanding with FUT Minna.


He is presently the Mogaji of Aikulola-Aibinuomo Family, Itaabigbo, Oke Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State.
