Oloyede, Hussein Oyelola Bukoye, is a Professor of Biochemistry, the current and Pioneer Vice-Chancellor of Summit University, Offa (SUNO; The University of Ansar-Ud-Deen Society of Nigeria ADSN). He was also the Pioneer Vice-Chancellor of Fountain University, Osogbo (FUO; The University of Nasrul-Lahi-Il – Fathi Society of Nigeria); 2007 - 2012. He had his University education at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Nigeria, where he obtained his B.Sc. (Hons.) Biochemistry in 1976, and M.Sc. Biochemistry in 1981 under the auspices of Kwara State and Federal Government Scholarships respectively. In 1986, Professor Oloyede obtained his Ph.D. in Food Biochemistry in the Department of Bioscience and Biotechnology, University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, U.K.

Professor Oloyede joined the services of the University of Ilorin, Ilorin Nigeria in 1977 as a Graduate Assistant. He rose through the ranks to become a Professor in 1995. He delivered his well attended Inaugural Lecture titled “All for the love of Nutrients” on May 26, 2005. He has successfully supervised numerous B.Sc, M.Sc. and Ph.D. students. Some of these students are also Professors and Directors today. He is a prolific writer having over 156 publications including monographs, international journal articles and conference proceedings to his credit. He has travelled extensively to various countries attending conferences and presenting scientific papers of international standard. His research focus includes Nutritional and Food Biochemistry, Nutraceuticals, Antioxidants, Environmental and Invertebrate Biochemistry.

Professor Oloyede had served as External Examiner for B.Sc, M.Sc. and Ph. D. Biochemistry programmes in several Universities within and outside the country including Ahmadu Bello University, Zaira, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, University of Port Harcourt, University of Lagos, Lagos and International Islamic University of Malaysia, Kula Lumpur, Malaysia. He has also served as Editor-in-Chief/ Member of Editorial Boards of some Journals and has been involved in the assessment of academic colleagues for the positions of Readers and Professors in various Nigerian Universities. The National University Commission (NUC) continues to engage his services as Chairman/Member of Accreditation team to various Universities.

Professor Oloyede is an active member of several Academic Societies within and outside Nigeria including American Association for the Advancement of Science, New York Academy of Science, Science Association of Nigeria, Nigerian Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, (NSBMB) and Society for Experimental Biology of Nigeria (NISEB).Indeed, he was one of the three founders of NISEB and the Executive Secretary (1999-2002) when it was called Bioscience Study Group. He is also a Fellow of the NSBMB (FNSBMB), Fellow of NISEB (FNISEB) and Fellow of Science Association of Nigeria (FSAN) and currently the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of NISEB.

As an experienced University Administrator, Professor Oloyede has held several positions at the Department (as the Head), Faculty and the University levels. He was the Dean of the Faculty of Science University of Ilorin, Ilorin, between August 2006 to February 2008. This was after the successful completion of his Sabbatical Leave between 2005 and 2006 at Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin as the Pioneer Dean, College of Natural Sciences and Overseer of the College of Management Sciences. Professor Oloyede has represented his colleagues at Senate on several Committees including the University Admissions Committee, Development Committee and more importantly the University Selections Board for the appointment of Principal Officers and for the post of the Vice-Chancellor. He has also been a Member of the Panel for the appointment of the post of the Vice-Chancellor of Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin twice. He had also served as the Chairman, Unilorin Strategic Review and Planning Committee (2013 – 2014), Member of the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital Board (2013 – 2015), Chairman, Steering Committee of the Unilorin Laboratory to Industrial Products (LABTOP, 2015) and Member, Unilorin 40 year Anniversary Celebration, 2015. More importantly, as the pioneer Vice-Chancellor of FUO, Professor Oloyede demonstrated astute academic and administrative leadership in laying a very solid academic foundation as exemplified by: the achievement of 100 % success in accreditation exercise within the first two years; the award of the Presidential scholarship to some of the Pioneer students to study abroad and the success attained by the graduates in their sojourn to various Universities for their postgraduate studies.

Arising from his vast administrative experiences at the University Level, Professor Oloyede has been of service to the Community as exemplified by being a Member of the Planning and Implementation Committee (PIC) for the establishment of Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin; Member of the PIC for Summit University, Offa; Member, PIC Proposed University of Offa; Member, PIC, Proposed City Model University, Iropora Ekiti; Member, PIC Proposed Warri University, Warri; and Member, Interviewing Panel for the appointment of Director-General of the National Research Institute for Chemical Technology (NARICT), Zaria. He was also appointed by the Kwara State Government as a Member of the Committee on Rationalization of courses in Kwara State Tertiary Institutions in 1997and Chairman Visitation Panel to Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin in 2003.

Professor Oloyede is a recipient of several awards including Unilorin Staff Development Award (1982-1986); Commonwealth Academic award (1983-1986); Olumbe Bassir Lecturer for the NSBMB Annual Conference, 2008; Silver Award by Offa Local Government towards the development of Offa (2010); Award as Keynote Speaker for the 2012 Conference of the Institute of Public Analysts of Nigeria (IPAN); Award of Excellence by the Unilorin Postgraduate Students’ Association in respect of Research; and Award as Keynote Speaker at the Third International Conference on Engineering Professional Ethics and Education (ICEPEE 2013) held at the International Islamic University, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

As a Member of the Muslim Ummah, Professor Oloyede continues to identify and play very prominent role as epitomised at the University of Ilorin Muslim Community as Students’ Adviser (1995-2002), Vice-Chairman (2002-2005), and Chairman, (2005-2007); also Member, Governing Council, Anuur Muslim Model School, Offa (2002- date); and Secretary, Offa Community Fund raising Committee on Summit University, Offa (2003-2005). He has also contributed immensely to the development of Offa community where he hails from. He has served the Offa Communty in various capacities as member of various committees for the Development of Offa especially on matters of education. He is the Patron, Offa Students Union (University of Ilorin Branch) 2002 to-date; Secretary, Peace Committee on Offa Crises set up by Offa Traditional High and Honourary Chiefs and Dignitaries, 2003 – 2004; Vice-President, Offa Club 80, Offa, 2013 to date; Member, ODU, Educational Committee (2013 to date) to mention a few.

He is happily married to Hadjia Sariyat Bunmi Oloyede. He is blessed with children and grandchildren.
