Ag. Dean, College of Management and Social Sciences
On behalf of the Management, members of Staff and Learners (Students) of the College of Management and Social Sciences (COMAS), let me welcome you to this great citadel of learning for the commencement of the 2022/2023 academic session.
I commend the learners generally for their academic supremacy during the last academic session, 2021/2022. The learners are also appreciated for their excellent performance in sports and clubs particularly the Aviation and SUMSIDA clubs. The good behaviour of learners in our university is driven by the University’s “core values” (Knowledge, Skills, and Morals).
My sincere appreciation goes to my colleagues in the College for their dedication to duty and source of mentorship for students, alongside their research work. Summit University, Offa is no doubt blessed with competent and highly qualified lecturers and professionals.
Also, I will like to highlight recent developments in the College. The College, which is the largest in Summit University, has 5-degree awarding programmes in 5 Departments namely: Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, Mass Communication, and Political Science. The Department of Mass communication, being a capital-intensive programme, has photography, radio, and television studios adequately equipped with the state-of-the-art facilities. The Department of Management and Accounting also has an Accounting laboratory well-equipped with dozens of desktop computers and other I.T. equipment.
It is on the note I report that all the programmes in the College have been granted full accreditation status by the National Universities Commission during the last accreditation exercise.
I am also happy to inform our learners, parents and guardians about the additional 7 skills that Summit University students must acquire before graduation. These are: Financial Literacy Skill; Clean and Renewable Energy Skill; Family and Leadership Skill; Artificial Intelligence and ICT Skill; AcadoPreneurship Skill; History, Heritage and Storytelling Skill; and Islam and Global Citizenship Skill.
Once again, I wish to warmly congratulate the learners and lecturers of this great College who give expression to the vision and mission of Summit University, translating them into the 3 core values guiding the conduct of the staff and learners of the university. We shall continue to impress upon our students and lecturers in the College the need to drive their “academic engines” toward achieving a breakthrough that would make Summit University, Offa a World Class University.
