It is my pleasure to welcome you to a new academic session in the Department of Biological Sciences at Summit University, Offa, Kwara state. The Department was established in 2017 together with other pioneer Departments in the College of Natural and Applied Sciences. It is located in a serene environment, conducive for teaching and learning. We offer a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree programme in Microbiology, which is accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC). In addition, we have competent, qualified and enthusiastic academics that provide students with sound theoretical and hands-on laboratory experience required for a broad-spectrum of careers in industries, healthcare, research institutes, academia, etc. We have graduated two sets of students; our students are top-notch, performing well in various inter-varsity quiz competitions. We maintained a student-centred learning environment, with the sole purpose of raising a generation of students that are autonomous, by placing the responsibility of learning in their hands.
The programme is designed to provide a sound understanding of the concepts of microorganisms in relation to mankind and the environment. It will elaborate the importance of microorganisms in the industry, health and environmental sectors of the society. In addition, the microbiology programme will emphasize the traditional biotechnology and the linkage to the current modern biotechnology.
